The Vice-President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Artur Lima, today signed, on the occasion of the Web Summit in Lisbon, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Startup Portugal, establishing a cooperation framework to support the Region’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The MoU between the Regional Government of the Azores and Startup Portugal, the national entity responsible for monitoring, supervising, and controlling the process of granting startup and scaleup status, reinforces the commitment to support and promote the regional innovation ecosystem.
According to the Vice-President of the Regional Government, this Memorandum will “enhance the initiative of the Azorean entrepreneurship community, giving it national and international visibility and reach within a highly competitive global market.”
The cooperation framework established “aligns with the work being developed by the Government, both in boosting and strengthening the Science and Technology Parks and in attracting external investment,” stated Artur Lima.
“It is also essential to continue positioning the Azores as an attractive Atlantic hub for investment. The signing of this Memorandum is part of the external promotion strategy that the Government has been implementing,” emphasized the Vice-President of the Executive.
The Autonomous Region of the Azores has a dedicated exhibition space at Web Summit 2025. In this edition, which takes place from 10 to 13 November, the Regional Government has secured the presence of fifteen Azorean companies from various sectors, such as drone manufacturing, biotechnology, telecommunications engineering, artificial intelligence, and software development.
“The Web Summit is one of the largest technology fairs in the world. The presence of these fifteen companies is a strategic opportunity for them to showcase the excellence of regional innovation,” he said.
He added: “Above all, it is the right forum for developing partnerships and attracting investment and talent.”
The Web Summit is a flagship event in both the national and global landscape of technological innovation. Over its ten editions, it has welcomed more than 70,000 participants from 157 countries. It also brings together 1,857 investors from 86 countries.
