ESTAGIAR Program

ESTAGIAR is a program that supports the implementation of traineeships in companies through one of the following types:

  • ESTAGIAR L – aimed at young graduates or Master students (no older than 30 as at the application date) who, upon completion of their studies, have never worked in their field of studies under a contract of employment;
  • ESTAGIAR T – aimed at young higher education graduates (between 17 and 28 years old as at the application date inclusive) who do not hold a first degree, but have completed a technological or professional course or study program conferring a level 3 professional qualification certificate and Grade 12 secondary school equivalency, who have never worked in their field of studies under a contract of employment;
  • ESTAGIAR U –  aimed at young students living in the Region (no older than 30 as at the application date) and attending university courses that confer a first degree or Master's degree, or attending post-graduate courses.

In São Miguel Island, ESTAGIAR L traineeships have an initial duration of nine months and can be extended for another nine months, including a one-month rest period to be taken between the 12th and the 15th month.

In Santa Maria, Terceira, Pico, Faial, São Jorge, Graciosa, Flores and Corvo Islands, ESTAGIAR L traineeships have an initial duration of eleven months and can be extended for another twelve months, including a one-month rest period to be taken between the 12th and the 15th month.

  • ESTAGIAR T traineeships have an initial duration nine months and can be extended for another nine months, including a one-month rest period to be taken between the 12th and the 15th month.
  • ESTAGIAR U traineeships are for a period of one month per candidate and take place between 15th July and 30th September.
  • ESTAGIAR L and ESTAGIAR T traineeships start on 1st October (for applications submitted in August) and 1st January (for applications submitted in November).

A monthly pecuniary compensation is granted to trainees of the ESTAGIAR L program, corresponding to a gross amount of €720.

A monthly pecuniary compensation is granted to ESTAGIAR T and ESTAGIAR U trainees, corresponding to the regional minimum wage (€530,25).

As regards ESTAGIAR L traineeships taking place in São Miguel Island, and ESTAGIAR T in the entire Region, compensations are totally funded by the Regional Employment Fund during the first nine months of training. In the remainder nine months, including the one-month rest period, companies pay 25% of the compensations.

As regards ESTAGIAR L traineeships taking place in Santa Maria, Terceira, Pico, Faial, São Jorge, Graciosa, Flores and Corvo Islands, compensations are totally funded by the Regional Employment Fund during the first eleven months of training. In the remainder twelve months, including the one-month rest period, companies pay 25% of the compensations.

Companies must also provide meal allowance (approximately €4.52 per work day) and work accident insurance.
